Monika Jurkowska, MD

Head of Genomed NZOZ Laboratory
Specialist in laboratory medical genetics

Graduate of the Interdepartmental Individual Studies in Mathematics and Natural Sciences and the Faculty of Biology, University of Warsaw (1999), specialisation: molecular biology. She defended her doctoral degree in medical science (medical biology) with honours at the Biostructure Centre of the Medical Academy in Warsaw (2004); she prepared her doctoral thesis at the Department of Medical Genetics of the Institute of Mother and Child within the Study of Molecular Medicine. She has participated in numerous conferences, workshops and research internships (Ontario Cancer Institute in Toronto, CLB in Amsterdam, INSERM EMI 210 in Paris, European School of Medical Genetics in Sestri Levante, Immunoglobulin Gene Analysis in CLL in Thessaloniki). She has conducted research in projects of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the 6th Framework Programme, the National Science Centre and the National Centre for Research and Development. The results of her work have been published in more than a dozen articles of international scope, with a current citation index of H-7. She is a member of the Polish Biochemical Society. Currently, she is scientifically affiliated with the Department of Soft Tissues, Bone and Melanomas at the Maria Skłodowska-Curie Oncology-Institute.
She has been professionally involved in molecular diagnostics of hereditary and cancerous diseases since 2001. She is a laboratory diagnostician (2003) with a specialisation in medical laboratory genetics (2009). She gained experience in leading centres in this field (Institute of Mother and Child, Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto, L'Hộpital Necker in Paris, Institute-Centre for Oncology in Warsaw). She managed the diagnostic laboratories at the Institute-Centre for Oncology in Warsaw (2008-2011) and Centrum Badań DNA (2012-2013). She was a consultant of the Department of Molecular Diagnostics at the Świętokrzyskie Oncology Centre. She also holds a GCP diploma (Good Clinical Practices for Clinical Trial Investigators, Quintiles Poland 2012). Her professional interests currently focus on non-invasive prenatal genetic diagnosis, genetic predisposition to cancer and molecular diagnostics using NGS technology in personalised medicine.

Robert Szymańczak, PhD in biology

Deputy Head of the Laboratory of the Non-Public Health Centre of Genomed

A graduate of the Faculty of Biology, University of Gdansk (2003) and the Medical University of Gdansk (2012). PhD in biological sciences, acquired in 2011, specialization: molecular genetics, population genetics.
An expert in the field of bioinformatics analysis and in the field of use of diagnostic databases. He is also highly skilled in a wide range of molecular techniques used in medical diagnostics. The specialist in the design and optimization of molecular diagnostic methods. The internal auditor of quality management system.
From 2012 he has a right to practise a profession of laboratory diagnostician with several years (since 2008) of professional experience in molecular diagnostics of genetic diseases, infertility, inherited susceptibility to cancers and viral & bacterial infections.  He participated in projects related to preimplantation diagnosis. In the years 2010 - 2012 he was a consultant in implementation of molecular methods in the Department of Genetics of the University of Gdansk. He still is involved in the scientific cooperation with it in implementing the projects in the field of population genetics.
At present, his professional interests focus on molecular diagnostics of genetic diseases and the use of sequencing techniques, including NGS technology in molecular diagnostics and personalized medicine.
