Charter of Patients' Rights
(set of basic legal regulations)
Warsaw, October 2nd 2025
I. Patient Rights arising from the direct application of the provisions of the Constitution of the Republic of Poland:
- Everyone has the right to health protection – Article 68(1) of the Constitution of the Republic of Poland.
- Every citizen has the right to equal access to healthcare services financed from public funds, under the conditions and to the extent specified in the Act – Article 68(2) of the Constitution of the Republic of Poland.
II. Patient rights specified in the Patients' Rights and Patients' Rights Ombudsman Act of 6 November 2008:
The document reflects the legal status as of 29 September 2025 and has been adapted to the specific nature of genetic testing, molecular diagnostics and non-reimbursable services.
The patient's right to health care services
Patients have the right to health care services that meet the requirements of current medical knowledge.
Right to information
Patients have the right to information about their health condition.
The patient's right to confidentiality of information relating to them
Patients have the right to confidentiality of information about them by medical professionals, including those providing them with healthcare services, obtained in connection with the practice of medicine.
The patient's right to consent to the provision of healthcare services
Patients have the right to give or refuse consent to specific healthcare services.
The right to respect for the patient's intimacy and dignity
Patients have the right to respect for their intimacy and dignity, in particular when receiving healthcare services.
The patient's right to medical documentation
Patients have the right to access medical documentation concerning their health and the healthcare services provided to them.
